This course provides those attending with an introduction to the principles and practices of the work involved in film and television drama production management.

The basic thread throughout the week is that participants will learn how to break down a short script which they will schedule, and have a full understanding of all the elements which go into making up the budget.

In brief, areas covered are:

• Role, function and responsibilities of a drama production manager
  
• Breaking down and scheduling a script
  
• The Union Agreements, rules and regulations which must be followed so that budgets can be prepared and monitored
  
• The principles of a budget, cashflow, cost report and controlling costs
  
• Contracts: cast, crew, musicians, children, locations
  
• Using stunts and special effects
  
• Insurance; Completion Bonds; Health & Safety
  
• The Unit: on location (foreign and at home)
  
• Working on film and tape (broad coverage of the differences)
  
• Progress Reports and reporting to relevant people
  
• The use of music (copyright, licences etc)
  
• Post-production - current practices and schedules
  
• Going the Digital Route

Throughout the course speakers will be brought in to fully explain their specialist areas and will be on hand to answer questions relating to the main thread of the course - the script, around which the budget and everything else revolves.

Each night of the course, participants will receive homework. Completion of these assignments will ensure you obtain the maximum benefit from the course.

The course tutor is a Drama Production Manager/Production Supervisor with a wealth of experience of feature film and television drama productions.
